Is there a healthy high?
I never was one for drugs. Honestly. I always found my own mind a great enough source of entertainment that I never wanted to experiment with drugs. So the chemically induced high is not for me. Not now, not ever.
I get a sense of joy and euphoria from simple things like playing with the animals, listening to the rooster sing or looking at the sunkissed cottonball clouds we had in the sky yesterday. I feel such overwhelming appreciation for these things that I have no need to take euphoria internally, from a drug.
Being able to take myself to an altered state naturally comes “along with the package” for me. It’s a natural ability that allows me to see other realms that most people don’t even know exist. It’s not as “cool” as it might sound, truly, but I cherish the gift nonetheless. Not everyone can alter your consciousness at will, though, so it’s not a viable option for most people.
So if you refuse to use chemicals to gain a high and don’t currently have the skill set to alter your own state, what are the other achievable options?
What about the exercise high?
That is a healthy and natural high. It seems like everyone in the world but me can attain one by exercising. Not me, until I discovered something I’ll share in a bit.
For years and YEARS I felt that I was missing the Exercise High Gene or something. Why does everyone else talk about how good they feel after a run and all I feel is glad the workout’s over?
I could put myself through all sorts of agonizing workouts and never feel a high. Well, that’s like punching yourself in the eye repeatedly and the only time it feels good is when you quit. Not fun.
So chances are for YOU that you can exercise and achieve a wonderful state of bliss when you workout hard enough. I’ve talked to a whole bunch of my people in search of how to “get” an exercise high, and I was told part of it is working out hard enough that you put yourself in crisis. So my mind goes…why would I want to do THAT??? On purpose? really? Weird.
I loathe sweating. I mean TRULY; I LOATHE sweating. I hate working out hard enough to be a dripping unhappy mess. I’d almost rather punch my eye a few times than that, though I suppose it’s a close tie.
What about an oxygen high?
Dr. Oz tried out hyperbaric oxygen therapy for an hour and loved it. Here’s a snip from an article about the Show where he did this:
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is what Dr. Oz tried out next. He said the usual treatment time is 1 hour. He said that you put oxygen in a pressurized environment and gets the cells with more oxygen than usual. They had an audience member try out the chamber. She said that she is calmer and more aware.
Here is a Wikipedia article on hyperbaric medicine.
OK So this type of high doesn’t require chemicals or heavy sweating, but take a look at this. Oh – first let me say this is not a medical opinion or medical advice. It’s just some commentary on my research.
Yes, you’ll get a high from hyperbaric oxygen therapy. You would lay in the machine for an hour.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy has a number of valid medical uses, such as stroke recovery, wound healing, bone repair, cyanide poisoning, radiation sickness, and other conditions.
As a tool for health, vitality and longevity, hyperbaric oxygen therapy does indeed oxygenate the entire body.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy requires special equipment like a huge expensive machine in a hospital or potentially a portable unit. That means it requires an investment. I saw rates anywhere from $100 to over $1,000 listed per treatment.
Side effects include ear pain that may require you to get your eardrum pierced in order to relieve pressure, oxygen toxicity which can cause seizures, and can progress the growth of cataracts.
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy provides pure 100% oxygen and is considered to go wrong if purity drops below 80%. Earth’s atmospheric oxygen level is 21%.
PERSONAL OPINION: Earth’s atmosphere is nowhere near 100% oxygen. It’s about 21% oxygen. So, setting aside legitimate medical uses, I personally am not one to artificially enhance oxygen to that level (and let’s face it, you’d have to pay anywhere from $100–over 1,000 from what I saw in my research to get it). Now, I would not go under a knife except for extreme necessity either. That’s just me. Your opinion is your own.
As you can probably tell by now, I’m a natural girl. No nip & tuck, no weird machinery to force something that doesn’t come from nature.
