Earlier today I was not in a good space. Not exactly sure why. Maybe some sort of hormonal flux. Partly just the stress of waiting for certain things to happen. partly wanting the body to lose weight faster, considering the effort I'm putting into fitness and food choices.
Thing is, today when I was feeling not too great and my guts were in a bit of a twist, I said to myself, "I need to bounce."
I got onto the rebounder and bounced for a few minutes, and that made all t...
28 Day Program week 2 Day 2: Getting Myself Out of a Funk Today
June 29th, 201028 Day Program: What I Learned in Week 1
June 28th, 2010
Today I start week 2 of the 28-day program, so I thought I would take a pause and mention what I discovered during Week 1.
I made myself do something else I didn't want to do, which was to measure food. It's still not my favorite thing, but true to what works for me, I'm doing my best to make a game of it. The game this week was supposed to be just observing.
I don't think it's truly possible to observe without modifying your food when you know the ultimate goal is to ge...

A Source of Healthy Lifestyle Motivation: Watching My Mother Age
June 27th, 2010
I am in my mid 40s, and I know that looking at my Mom is a glimpse into my future - if I take the same steps she took.
My mom used to be a dancer and had a love for fitness I have never enjoyed. Wish you'd passed the "I love exercise" gene on to me, Mom! She was most definitely a "hot momma" with a strong curvy body any woman would envy.
She's not much heavier now than she was in those days, but naturally, her life has changed. Now in her late 60s, I see her stiffly get ...

A Day to Recoup
June 26th, 2010
I've worked out a lot this week and today I did my half hour of WiiFit and that's it. I could tell I need a break. Also feel as if I'm throwing off toxins, so overall a good day to take it a bit easy.
It has been so horribly HOT this week all over the place. I've been taking 2-3 showers a day.
A huge win for me, though, is that I have kept working out even though I HATE to sweat and even though it's hot.
My cats and Molly, my guide dog, have loved the fact tha...

Step Equivalents for "non-step" Exercises
June 25th, 2010
I know a lot of us are counting steps, but not every activity lends itself to wearing a pedometer, right? So I found a page that shows you things like this:
Tai Chi
light canoeing
dancing
trampouline
and much more.
Here is the link with my gratitude to the folks who set up the page. www.10k-steps.com/content/pedometer.

Watch Out for Food Tracker Results! Not always accurate
June 25th, 2010
I have dutifully tracked my food for the past 5 days. I'm in week 1 of the 28-day program.
here's something I noticed. I was looking at my lunch stats and saw that cheese, rye crackers and an apple added up to almost 700 calories. Since I know the crackers are extremely healthy and so are the other elements, I took a closer look.
The food tracker counted the rye crackers as having WAY WAY more calories than they actually do. I have the box, so I know. I found a type of ...

The Spark 28-Day Program Week 1: No More Procrastinating on Health and Wellbeing!
June 24th, 2010
I am not typically a procrastinator. Except when it comes to health. I had a bad habit of putting my work and other aspects of life ahead of my needs for increased fitness. I reasoned that I am a healthy person and I can do everything I need to do. So I would let projects get in the way. Not sitting in front of the TV but real projects that are important to me.
And as I read the article "Confessions of Reformed Procrastinator," www.sparkpeople.com/resource/motivat

The Spark 28-Day Program Week 1: New Streak This Week: Sleep
June 24th, 2010
This week I started a new streak of sleeping at least 7 hours. I find that some nights I am up too late and thus shorting my sleep some the next day, which decreases my energy, then I feel sluggish all day and on it goes. I'm not 19 anymore!
Tuesday nights I have a very late meeting. This week I limited the meeting time and let my body know it was OK to sleep later than usual the next day.
So far I have gotten through the 2 nights of the week that tend to get me on a dow...

The Spark Chapter 6 – 28 Day Program Day 4 of Week 1 Aha Moment
June 24th, 2010
Monday I started my 28-Day Spark makeover. I already have a streak of drinking enough water, which was my baby step goal when I first joined SparkPeople. To this I added tracking my sleep with a goal of 7 hours per night and.
Sunday when I got onto the WiiFit balance board and was told it was Sunday and I could take a day off, I said out loud, "No, I want that fitness streak to continue." I chose lighter activities but still did over a half hour and kept up my stepping (10,000/day...

The Spark Chapter 5: Volunteering and Role Models
June 21st, 2010
I cannot honestly say there is any correlation for ME between weight and volunteerism. I volunteer at will and I've always been overweight. Being thinner won't make me personally any more likely to give where I feel called to give. My current favorite charitable organizaqtion is 10 Million clicks for Peace, which has FREE tools for spreading peace and developing inner peace. You can joni at http://ThePeaceSeed.com/10mc.
