High School Student Recruits His Friends for Cancer Walk

Neighbors Get in the Holiday Spirit for a Special Toddler

pAt Loyola University Medical center’s annual bone marrow transplant celebration, the 40-year-old woman met up with Tim Crawford of Adairsville, Georgia, who donated stem cells for her 2007 transplant./p

Cancer Survivor Helps Uninsured with Free Care

Faith Coleman did not have health insurance when she was diagnosed with a malignant tumor on her kidney.

Now she aims to help others facing similar financial challenges while living with cancer.

The American Cancer Society (ACS) reveals that in 2006 there were 47 million people not medically insured.

My Long Ride Back

When I was 25, I was diagnosed with testicular cancer. I was given a less-than-40-percent chance of surviving, and frankly some of my doctors were just being kind.

My career stopped. The months of chemotherapy were grueling. I thought I’d never be able to get back on a racing bike. There were times I was so sick I couldn’t eat, couldn’t watch TV, couldn’t read my mail.

But when I was sickest from the chemo, I started to beat cancer. In the fall of 1997, I passed the one-year mark of recovery. Finally I made my mind up: I would try to race again.

Lance Armstrong Gathers Support to Fight Cancer

Over the past several years, many people have been inspired by the real-life story of Lance Armstrong’s success at beating cancer.

But just as inspiring as his personal history is the Tour de France champion’s campaign on behalf of others who are living with cancer.

Armstrong told USA Today he receives hundreds of messages per day from cancer survivors and their families, and he tries to respond to as many as he can.

Cancer Survivor Shares Healing Garden

While battling two separate bouts of cancer, Deborah Marqui found refuge in her garden.

Now, she regularly shares her personal sanctuary with others who may be looking for inspiration.

Marqui, who is cancer-free from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma since 1996 and in remission from breast cancer since 2002, created the two-acre Healing Gardens at Stone Hill Farm in St. Charles, Illinois.

Breast Cancer Heroine to Receive Presidential Medal

Her Susan G. Komen For the Cure network contributes to research, advocacy, education and outreach to people with breast cancer.

The inspiration for the global organization, which has a presence in 50 countries, began with Brinker’s promise to her sister.
