Grandma’s Stories

!–paging_filter–pIrsquo;m a teacher, and I like to arrive at school early to get ready for the day. /p
pBut one day last fall I pulled into the parking lot and sat, thinking about what Irsquo;d heard. /p
pFor the last few years Irsquo;d listened to a National Public Radio program called StoryCorps. Itrsquo;s a series of intimate, taped interviewsmdash;daughters interviewing mothers, wives interviewing husbands, all just average Americans listening to stories told by the most important people in their lives. /p

!--paging_filter--pWhen I was in Saudi Arabia during the Persian Gulf War, I was scaredmdash;I admit it. I was in the communications ground crew with the F-117A Stealth Fighter Wing. Our radar-evading aircraft were the only manned fighters that dared to invade central Baghdad./p pAs I watched the black planes thunder down the runway, I couldn't help but think of the danger of Iraqi Scud missiles hitting our installations.
